The female is larger than the male, they build
the nest as a couple in April and May and they
mate for life. The female lays 3 to 4 eggs, which
they incubate for 5 weeks. Both parents supply
food with only the mother feeding the chicks.
The chicks become independent at 70 to 90 days.
They hunt medium to small birds and mammals at
the edge of the forest such as rabbit, hare and
grouse. They are such good fliers that they can
chase their prey through the forest. The goshawk
is an efficient and aggressive hunter.
In the UK most nests are kept a secret to protect
the birds.
